As most of us have heard, Google has made some changes to their
algorithms again! People have been reporting various results since
the changes were made. If you are relying on Google for everything
in your business, this might be a good time to consider
diversifying your portfolio. You should always have other streams
of income you can turn to if Google drops your sites from the
search results. You can also setup sites on different hosts or
different accounts to diversify your assets.
How should your business strategy change with the Google Farmer
update? Here is what you should be doing if you haven’t already.
Compare your website analytics for February and March.
The update occurred around the beginning of March, so compare your
website statistics for February and March. This will help you see
if your web pages have been affected by the update. While this
seems like basic advice, many people never take the time to analyze
their traffic statistics. Now is a great time to review the
traffic on your sites! If you run a seasonal website, then this
strategy won’t work very well. Compare your traffic and website
rankings for sites that get consistent traffic throughout the year.
Write longer articles and content.
Google seems to be placing more emphasis on longer articles. If
you aren’t doing it already, start writing longer articles. I would
recommend writing at least 500 words of content for most all
articles now. Even if an article directory says you can write
shorter articles, I think it is more important than ever before to
write longer articles.
Stop relying on article directories for traffic.
It used to be that you could get a decent amount of traffic to your
sites just from posting articles at Ezinearticles. That is simply
not the case anymore. Almost all article directories have seen a
huge drop in traffic since the last Google update. Many of the
high ranking Ezinearticles are nowhere to be found today. If you
have any articles that are only posted on article websites, you
should start posting them on your own sites immediately. Some of
the article directories are deleting old content now in an attempt
to clean up the junk. Article directories are still a good source
for backlinks, but they are not going to rank as well as they used
Most of the basic SEO principles still apply.
Don’t freak out about your marketing strategies. Most SEO
strategies are still working. Stop relying so much on article
directories, and make sure most of your articles are on your own
sites. Scraped content still works. Don’t believe all of the
negative rants about scraped content. Not everything has to be
unique. Article directories took the biggest hit in the recent
update, but individual websites appear to be doing fine.
It is always good to have a diversified portfolio. Don’t rely too
much on Google for all of your income. Have a backup plan for your
business in case Google decides to de-index your sites.
If your websites are WordPress blogs, you’ll probably want to pick
