One of the hardest aspects of internet marketing is staying focused
on your projects. Do you realize that the average part-time
internet marketer only does 30 minutes of work a day? The truth is
that most people get easily sidetracked by the next shiny object!
Even writing articles about staying focused can be difficult!
I don’t see many people talk about staying focused these days, but
I think it is harder than ever for internet marketers to stay
focused on one plan. There are literally a thousand different ways
to make money on the internet, and many marketers are trying to
keep ten projects going at the same time! With Facebook and
Youtube just a click away, it is very difficult to stay focused if
you aren’t desperate to make money right away.
The truth is that you can stay focused if you know the secrets to
staying focused! Here are a few secrets that help me stay focused:
1. Have A To-Do List. When you start working for the day, make
sure you have a list of tasks that you want to get done that day.
I don’t care if you are one of those people that can remember
everything in your head. Writing down the tasks will simply help
you stay on task. I have personally found that this makes a big
difference for me. I know what I need to do, but I often forget
what I should be doing that day. I start looking at my Facebook,
and then three hours pass!
2. Have someone hold you accountable. We all get into internet
marketing so that we can be our own boss and not have someone
watching over your shoulder all day long. This seems great on the
surface, but some people need someone to hold them accountable.
Get someone that you trust to hold you accountable for the work you
are doing if you can’t stay focused. Give your partner a
deliberate list of things you will be working on today, and report
back to them with your results.
3. Have a plan. You should write down a specific plan of what you
are going to be doing, the steps you are taking to get there, and
an approximate time frame of when the goals or steps in your plan
will be completed.
4. Have rewards. You should reward yourself for completing certain
tasks. It doesn’t have to be something big or expensive, but it
should be something that you really want to do. It could be as
simple as spending more time with your kids. It could be a night
out on the town. Some people just want a big juicy steak! Make
sure your goal is something that you really want in your life.
These are some of my main secrets to staying focused. I would
recommend writing down everything you do for a week. Write down
everything you do. You’ll be surprised at how little you actually
get done in the day. You do not need to check your email every 30
minutes, and some important clients can wait an hour or so to
complete the service.
