When building a business, frustration is one of those persistent
demons that plague so many us. It’s a source of pain and can
sometimes make us question the whole idea in the first place:
– Was I born for this?
– Maybe there is another path for me to take?
– Other people seem to get this right so easily.
– Why is this so hard?
– Should I just give up and try something else?
– Why can’t I get this right?
– Maybe I’m not smart enough…
– Maybe it’s not in my genes.
– How bad do I really want this?
– I could so easily go back to my day job…
These and perhaps thousands of other scary thoughts plague us
throughout our journey and cause so many of us to derail and give
up on our dreams. This leaves only those who fought them off and
overcame these questioning voices to succeed and reap all the
rewards. There is however one very important concept to be aware of
and that is:
These voices NEVER go away!
Yip! The only difference between a person who has succeeded and a
failure is the successful person practiced ignoring the voice and
taking action anyway. In fact he did it so many times that it
became a habit to the point where any time he heard the voice of
negativity, he immediately took action knowing there was nothing to
fear on the other side of it.
There is another concept to be aware of and that is being ‘outcome
dependent’. You’ve probably heard of this before but it bears
repeating. When the outcome of a specific goal becomes more
important than the pure joy of working towards it, we are being
outcome dependant. So, for example, if being big and muscular is
more important to you than going to the gym regularly and putting
in the hard work of getting the body you want, you are being
outcome dependent and will feel immense frustration. The people
that get big and strong learn to love the whole process of going to
the gym and working out. They enjoy putting on their gym clothes,
driving to the gym, the smell of the gym, their favorite machines,
stretching, warming up, pushing their limits, and yes, even the
pain. It is even possible to learn to love pain if that pain
becomes strongly associated with success in your mind.
This is what we all need more of. Love of the process of working
hard and building your business. This way, it becomes more
enjoyable and your goals will be achieved with much less effort.
When all we can see is how far away we are from our goal, it makes
us feel inferior, that we suck and that we’ll never reach the goal.
However, when all we can see is how much fun it is to work on our
business, learn more about success, learn about ourselves, build
relationships, learn to be more productive, implement new
strategies, push our limits. become better people and teach our
friends, family and business partners what we’re learning, then
things get really, really fun.
Learn to love the process because excellence is not a state of
being but a collection of habits.
