Everyone constantly hammers home the point that it’s
important to be a good copywriter if you want to make money
on the internet. They recommend that you study the best
copywriters from John Carlton, Michel Fortin, Joe Sugarman
and the like. If you do, you’ll quickly realize just how
complex copywriting can be. Each of these copywriting titans
has a million little secret strategies and tactics that are
supposedly deadly effective and will change your income
Well I don’t know about that…
First of all these tactics only work in certain niches or
markets, many of them have become obsolete through overuse,
and, depending on your audience they might simply make you
come off like a crazy salesman. And as you know, nobody
wants to listen to a salesman. Also, the tiny difference
some of these tactics make will only be apparent if you are
getting TONS of traffic.
There are in fact much more important things to focus on
which are never really mentioned. Things which will make
your copywriting skills (or lack thereof) trivial or even
Here’s a question for you. How would you rather spend your
- Making your offer unbelievably valuable, enticing and
impossible to refuse simply because of the amount of sheer
value it delivers.
- Or by reading a thousand books on copywriting so your
sales pages convert 3% higher after a year of testing and
I think it’s pretty obvious what’s going to be more
beneficial. When you have something to offer that nobody
else can, a little copywriting will go a long way. In fact,
you could have a downright horrible sales letter and still
make a fortune simply on the merit of the value you deliver.
Also, people hype up the importance of copywriting because
most of them are coming from the mindset of entering a
market purely for the potential financial rewards that it
has. These same gurus are peddling products to teach the
average person on the street (who let’s face it, probably
doesn’t have much expertise or value in any particular
niche) how to make money online. In order to do so they are
most likely going to need to promote other’s products since
they won’t be able to create one themselves. And as we
know, when you are promoting other’s products, you need all
the advantages you can get to compete.
Rather put your time, energy and effort into creating value
and leave the copywriting alone for a while. Do this and the
sales will take care of itself. When you do this, all you
really need in your copy is 3 points:
- 1. Show them what you are offering.
- 2. Show them what it will do for them.
- 3. Show them what you want them to do next.
This is by far the simplest formula for copywriting and
it’s also one of the most effective in existence. If you
have something of real value to offer people, keep it
simple, use these 3 steps and you will do great.
